Music Styles: Both into a lot of different styles of music. Drum & Bass (obviously), Breaks, Electro, Fidget, Hip Hop, Folk, Gospel Rap, Choirs, Acapellas. When it comes to there d'n'b, Mattix & Futile don't like to be pinned down to one genre. They generally get into the studio and see what happens on the day whether it be liquid, dark or jump-up.
Inspiration: Inspired by all types of artists and music from all genres. They are both huge followers of d'n'b artists Brookes Brothers, Sub Focus, Culture Shock, Spor, Noisia, Metrik and more recently Furlonge. These are just a few of the producers Mattix & Futile have come to love over the years and hope to aspire to in the future. They find that inspiration can come from anywhere though, Futile for instance is really into Vultures and Mattix often finds that he works best after watching any sort of programme on winged beasts.
Jack & Mike first started DJing when they were 16. Not together but mixing in general. Back then Mike was a hardcore garage fan and Jack was a hard dance enthusiast. They had been friends for a while before and there keen interest in cats and music prompted them to do a 2 year ND Music Technology course, in Worthing, to help them learn the basics of sequencing and sampling. By this time Mike was already touching the surfaces of production with the stunning á30 software, Making Waves, and he had a brief understanding of computers and music. Jack, on the other hand had a computer that was so bad that just the thought of putting some kind of music software on it made it crash. It was about a year into the course when Jack passed his driving test and bought DJ Hypes Jungle Massive CD for the car journeys to college. This CD really opened Jacks eyes to drum & bass and it wasn't long before Mike jumped on the bandwagon and they became the duo Ron Davis & Associate. After a few months, due to legal reasons, they changed there names to Mattix & Futile. After completing there Music Technology course they went on to do the 2 year HND Music Production course in Worcester. By this time Jack had finally sorted himself out with a computer and they were both producing a lot more tunes. There tracks were still pretty ropey but the enthusiasm was there. They had a regular spot at a night in Worcester for a while and played out on Aftershock radio a few times before moving back to Horsham. Since then they've been working hard on producing tunes and trying to promote themselves as much as possible. They played at Turnmills before it closed down last year and have had regular gigs around the South East including Bognor where they are currently residents at the Mud Club. They are always learning more and trying to push their production further and further. Keep an eye out for Mattix & Futile as they have recently got themselves a one man band kit each and will be on tour busking around the world from now on.
